Where the data comes from
Every number on this site comes from a public source and carries the date we pulled it. Where a source has no figure, we do not estimate one.
Florida Department of Health license file
The state publishes its license file for download. It lists each licensee's license status, mailing address and email address. Our copy covers the three dental licenses (dentist, dental hygienist, dental radiographer) and was downloaded on August 3, 2026. The state offers no incremental download, so every refresh is the whole file again.
The file also has a phone field, which the state itself says it does not maintain. We do not use it. The license status is the state's record. The email address is the one the licensee gave the state; nobody verifies it.
The federal NPI registry
The National Plan and Provider Enumeration System lists every provider with a National Provider Identifier, in all fifty states. It has a phone number and no email address. The NPI is a billing identifier, so most dental hygienists never get one: for Florida, the registry lists 725 hygienists against 18,470 with an email in the state file.
The phone number in that registry is listed as a practice location number, not a personal one. FaroHire never calls it or texts it.
Federal wage survey (BLS OEWS)
Pay figures come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025 reference period, read from the agency's public data on August 4, 2026. Occupations: Dental Hygienists (SOC 29-1292) and Dentists, General (SOC 29-1021), for Florida's 22 metro areas. Counties outside a metro area have no figure in this data, and we do not fill them in.
Florida's file puts every dental license, general dentists and specialists alike, under one "Dental" category. The BLS figure is for general dentists. The two do not count exactly the same people, so we call the dentist pairing an approximation everywhere it appears.
The one figure we did not pull ourselves
The 91% on the For clinics page comes from the American Dental Association's Health Policy Institute, Q1 2026. It was measured among dentists who were recruiting a hygienist, about one in three of them, not among all dentists.
What we do not publish
- Exact counts by county. Counties appear in ranges, and the smallest range is "Fewer than 11". That label means there are people there; the number is too small to print without pointing at someone.
- Names, or a way to look someone up. There is no search by person on this site or in the product.
- Your location. No page here asks your browser where you are or works it out from your connection. Counties are named because you chose them.
- Any pay figure from a client. Wages on this site come only from the BLS. What a practice enters as its pay range never appears here, alone or in an average.
- Licensees whose address is out of state, abroad, unknown or marked confidential by the state are not counted under any county.
